In considering adult learning we focus on how she works with teachers to implement the technology to K-6 primarily, though some in secondary grades as well. We discuss some of the pitfalls that she had to overcome in working with teachers with this initiative and pitfalls that she still continues to address. I have her focus a lot on teaching the teachers, since that is my adult learning audience, however, we talk about how they will integrate it into their elementary or secondary classrooms.
Thank you Ivy Nelson for an awesome interview about a very cool technology!
I feel the need to update this to share that this was originally a 19 minute long interview. If it seems a bit choppy, I tried my very best to make it make sense and limit it to 10 minutes. I definitely put my editing skills to the test. I got down to deleting "umms" toward the end to keep as much content as I could.
Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy!
Really nice job here. Loved the subject matter- it was fascinating. Though this was K-6 I think there's definitely application for adult learning as well. Wondering if some of the extension programs could use this?
ReplyDeleteWhat video editing software did you use? I like the features of the crawl with the questions and the titling. I used free software so mine didn't have those bells and whistles
Thank you so much. Google Cardboard is a really exciting technology and I was so happy that Ivy chose that as the emergent technology that she wanted to talk about.
DeleteI definitely could see how colleges could use this. I think history and geography classes could use it to take their students to the places they are discussing. I think English professors could use it in ways like Ivy described for Creative Writing. The Education professors could use it in teaching things teachers can do in their classrooms. Google Cardboard is definitely an emergent technology that is worth talking about. I know as educators we had a super fun time playing with it when they were teaching us how to use it with our students.
For the editing software I used iMovie. I have a Macbook through work that I've used for end of year videos for my class and so I had some familiarity with editing videos before this.
Thank you again and I will add Google Cardboard to the key words. Great suggestion!
I have never heard of Google Cardboard until you mentioned it. Wow! This is awesome. I also can see many possibilities here.
ReplyDeleteYou and Ivy really seemed to understand the technology, not only how to work the tool, but how to use the tool. This was obvious in your suggested ways of implementing it in the classroom. I especially liked the idea of using it to generate thoughts for writing assignments.
I wonder too if it could be used by the students to create their own expeditions. Maybe create a presentation of a family trip to an interesting location. Then the rest of the class could experience it as well.
